The plot chickens… addressing myths

As more and more genderqueer communities come into the national spotlight, many remain overshadowed by the misconceptions about them.

Often, the portrayals of genderqueer communities are limited to specific traits and characteristics. From popular TV shows to the content that social media’s algorithms promote, it’s easy to feel invalidated in a one-dimensional view of genderqueer communities.

Additionally, host Chels Chang and guest speaker María Valle-Remond, a genderqueer senior, discuss the fluidity of gender in a society that primarily regards gender as two separate, permanent boxes.

Hendered by the gender binary

Despite recent movements to draw more national attention in support of genderqueer communities and the gender spectrum, the toxicity of the gender binary system can be felt throughout everyday life. For agender senior Artemis St Pierre, this is especially true.

From the barriers many genderqueer people face today to the societal pressures to conform to a certain image, join host Chels Chang and guest speaker St Pierre as they discuss the harm that gender binary causes.

Additionally, they find common ground in the struggle of being called by a preferred name with Chang speaking from personal experiences and St Pierre from a bureaucratic standpoint.

Coming out from the shell! What is gender?

Together, host Chels Chang and guest speaker Kasey Liu kick off the first episode of Gender Chicken Tender, a podcast dedicated to exploring the gender spectrum, identities, and everything in between.

In this first episode, Chang and Liu discuss two of the central elements to many genderqueer communities: gender and pronouns.

Giving a broad overview of these topics, they describe a few gender identities and the difference between gender and sex, as well as the different types of pronouns and what they might signify.
